In a move that could influence cross-border trade, the Chinese mainland's Ministry of Commerce announced on Wednesday that it will launch an expiry review of anti-dumping measures targeting single-mode optical fibers from India on August 14, 2025.
The review, requested by the domestic optical fiber industry, aims to determine whether lifting these duties would lead to renewed dumping and harm local producers. During the process, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council confirmed that existing duties โ ranging from 7.4 percent to 30.6 percent โ will remain unchanged in both scope and rate.
Initially imposed in August 2014 to protect local manufacturers from unfair pricing practices, these duties were reviewed and extended in 2020 for another five years. The upcoming expiry review will decide if these safeguards are still needed beyond their current term.
Stakeholders across business and tech sectors will be watching closely. A decision to retain or remove the duties could affect market dynamics, supplier strategies, and the competitive landscape in high-speed connectivity markets between the two economies.
