At just 18 years old, Chinese para-athlete Long Dengxi made waves at the 2025 Chengdu World Games by securing his second freediving gold in the men’s dynamic with fins (FFS1-FFS2) event.
Following his dynamic without fins victory on Sunday, Long pushed his limits to 181.5 meters on Monday, outdistancing Denmark’s Casper Marti-Beckmann (silver) and France’s Alexandre Boscari (bronze). 'Winning two golds leaves me thrilled. Huge thanks to my coach for guiding us through every training challenge,' said Long, who has trained in freediving for less than a year.
In the women’s dynamic without fins, teammate Huang Jingqiu bounced back from a Sunday disqualification to claim gold, while Huang Shiyu and Kong Tianci were sidelined for surface protocol issues. Poland’s Mateusz Jan Malina, who topped the men’s dynamic without fins on Sunday, also struck gold in the dynamic with fins, completing a personal double. 'My legs are very tight. I have not fully recovered since yesterday,' he admitted. 'But I’m satisfied—today was a good fight.'
On the women’s fins front, Hungary’s Zsofia Torocsik shattered the world record, extending it from 284.0 to an astounding 300.0 meters. Former record holder Julia Malgorzata Kozerska of Poland took silver, while compatriot Magdalena Solich Talanda earned bronze. 'I still cannot believe it, but I wanted the world record so much,' Torocsik said. 'I train hard every time, no matter the conditions.'
Over two days, the freediving contests—featuring both able-bodied and para disciplines—yielded two world records. China led the medal tally with four golds, followed by Poland (three golds, one silver, one bronze) and Italy (two golds, two silvers, three bronzes).
