On Monday, China's Foreign Ministry rejected statements by the G7 and certain Western countries criticizing law enforcement actions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government.
The G7 Rapid Response Mechanism had accused Hong Kong police of "transnational repression" after issuing arrest warrants for individuals involved in the so-called illegal election activities of the "Hong Kong Parliament."
Spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that these measures comply fully with the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, and align with international law and common practice. "They are lawful, justified, and necessary," Lin said.
He called the accusations baseless, highlighting what he described as hypocrisy from countries enforcing long-arm jurisdiction and imposing unilateral sanctions. "The accusations expose double standards and aim to smear legitimate law enforcement," Lin added.
Lin also stressed that the central government of China strongly supports the Hong Kong police in taking resolute and lawful action against anti-China fugitives and destabilizing forces overseas, urging foreign actors to respect China's sovereignty and refrain from interference.
