Since launching in 2013, Erenhot port in the Chinese mainland’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has recorded 20,000 entry and exit China-Europe freight train trips, China Railway Hohhot Group announced. As the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border, Erenhot has become a key hub in the Belt and Road’s central corridor.
Rapid growth is evident in the numbers:
- 2013: Service launch
- 2022: First 10,000 trips achieved
- Next 10,000 trips completed within three years
- 73 routes linking 60+ cities across 24 regions to over 70 stations in 10+ countries
- Goods evolved from metals and chemicals to new-energy vehicles, electronics and home appliances
“We’ve seen a transformation in cargo types,” the group said. What began with basic commodities now includes high-value-added products, reflecting deeper trade ties between Asia and Europe.
For young global citizens and business innovators, this milestone underlines how logistics networks are evolving to support faster, more diverse trade flows. It also points to emerging economic opportunities along the rail corridors, from urban hubs to digital nomad destinations.
As Erenhot port continues to expand its reach, more routes and higher-frequency services are expected, further solidifying the China-Europe railway service as a backbone of modern global trade.
