At a grand reception in Beijing, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun led celebrations marking the 98th anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Against a backdrop of vibrant flags and stirring anthems, Minister Dong reiterated that the PLA remains unwaveringly prepared to pursue the goal of China's complete reunification, pledging to thwart any separatist attempts seeking "Taiwan independence" and foil any military interference by external forces.
In his remarks, Minister Dong reflected on a year rich with milestones: the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War; the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration; and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. He emphasized that these commemorations underscore the PLA's enduring role in safeguarding national sovereignty and global peace.
Looking ahead, Minister Dong previewed a major military parade set for September 3 in Tiananmen Square, a highlight of the commemorations. He said the event will showcase the PLA as a force for peace and justice that excels in military strength, sending a clear message to the Party and the people of the Chinese mainland.
Beyond national priorities, Minister Dong stressed the Chinese military's willingness to partner with armed forces worldwide. He called for joint efforts to advance a community with a shared future for humanity and the three major global initiatives, tackle emerging risks, and build a world of lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.
With the PLA celebrating nearly a century of service, the world will be watching as China honors its past achievements and sets its sights on future collaboration and stability.
