Ecological Rangers Guard Chinese Mainland’s Natural Heritage on World Ranger Day

Every July 31, the world pauses to honour the guardians of our wild places. On #WorldRangerDay, we celebrate the ecological protection rangers safeguarding the Chinese mainland’s natural heritage and biodiversity.

This year marks two milestones: the 20th anniversary of the idea that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and the 10th anniversary of the Chinese mainland’s national park system reform.

At a recent press conference, the Chinese mainland’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) deputy director Sun Hongyan highlighted how the national park system has shifted into a phase of systematic coordination and full-scale advancement.

From remote mountain trails to coastal wetlands, professional rangers have become cornerstones of biodiversity protection. These teams patrol fragile ecosystems, monitor wildlife populations, and work hand in hand with local communities to turn conservation goals into real-world impact.

As global citizens seek sustainable travel and immersive experiences, the stories of these rangers remind us that protecting nature is a collective journey. Their dedication not only preserves scenic landscapes but also fuels green innovation and strengthens policy action in the Chinese mainland and beyond.
