Against a backdrop of global turbulence and transformation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called for opening new channels of dialogue and consultation with the United States.
Speaking in Beijing to a delegation from the US-China Business Council, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted how mutual engagement both shapes and is shaped by worldwide developments.
“China's policy toward the US remains consistent and stable,” Wang said, reaffirming core principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, the two leaders have held two major phone conversations, reaching key agreements to improve and develop bilateral ties.
Wang argued that more communication will help both nations avoid misjudgments, manage differences and unlock cooperation across trade, investment and other strategic areas. He stressed the importance of respecting each other’s core interests and major concerns to prevent confrontation and conflict, and urged both sides to pursue dialogue with an objective, rational and pragmatic attitude.
By deepening engagement on an equal footing, Wang believes China and the US can build a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship—one that benefits their citizens and contributes positively to global stability.
