U.S.-China Stockholm Talks ‘More Engaged,’ Says Bessent

In a positive turn, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the latest round of China-U.S. economic and trade talks in Stockholm was “more engaged” than ever.

“It was our third meeting,” Bessent told reporters, noting that “London built on Geneva, Stockholm built on London and Geneva.” The two-day session in Sweden’s capital brought together senior officials from the U.S. and the Chinese delegation for what he called a “fulsome” discussion.

Responding to questions, he highlighted that the talks “went to a wider aperture,” allowing both sides to explore a broad spectrum of issues. “Rather than the talks getting more difficult, I actually think that they are getting more engaged,” he said.

Bessent also stressed a shared desire to keep global commerce interconnected. “We don’t want to decouple,” he noted, signaling both sides’ willingness to maintain cooperation amid complex economic dynamics.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts tracking international markets, this development underscores the power of sustained dialogue. After laying the groundwork in Geneva and London, the Stockholm meeting adds fresh momentum to China-U.S. conversations on trade and economy.
