Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng called on the United States to join forces with China to deepen consensus, reduce misunderstandings and drive win-win outcomes during high-level economic and trade talks in Stockholm on Monday and Tuesday.
Meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, He emphasized that a stable, healthy and sustainable China-U.S. economic relationship not only supports each country’s growth ambitions but also bolsters global economic stability.
Over two days of candid, in-depth discussions, both sides reviewed progress since the Geneva and London rounds of talks and affirmed their commitment to key agreements. Central to the dialogue was the proposal to extend the pause on 24% reciprocal tariffs—alongside China’s countermeasures—for another 90 days.
“Our shared interests far outweigh our differences,” He told delegates. “Cooperation benefits both sides; confrontation harms both.” He urged participants to lean on the recent phone call consensus between the two heads of state on June 5 and to leverage the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism to resolve outstanding issues.
The U.S. team echoed those sentiments, noting the global significance of a stable bilateral relationship and pledging to continue resolving disputes through dialogue. As negotiations move forward, both sides signaled readiness to turn talk into tangible outcomes that can fuel growth in their economies and beyond.
