Global Delegates Hail China’s Role at 2025 Food Loss & Waste Conference

At the 2025 International Conference on Reducing Food Loss and Waste, agricultural ministers and experts from 62 countries and regions convened to tackle one of the planet’s most pressing challenges: how to shrink the gap between farm and fork.

CGTN’s Xu Yi spoke with Burundi’s Minister of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Prosper Dodiko, who highlighted China’s hands-on support. “Chinese-led training programs have equipped our farmers with post-harvest techniques that cut losses and boost yields,” Dodiko explained. He cited workshops on storage solutions and digital monitoring tools as key drivers of change in rural communities.

Meanwhile, Michael Starbaek Christensen, Denmark’s Ambassador to China and Mongolia, underscored the power of international research partnerships. “Collaborating with Chinese universities on cold-chain logistics and smart farming has accelerated our shared sustainability goals,” Christensen said. He pointed to a pilot project using sensor-based platforms to track produce freshness from field to market.

Across the conference halls, the message was clear: reducing food waste isn’t just an agricultural concern—it’s a global mission that unites governments, entrepreneurs and innovators. Delegates marked China’s expanding role in funding infrastructure, championing technology transfer and fostering cross-border cooperation as a model for collective action.

As the summit wrapped up, attendees committed to scaling up joint initiatives, from joint R&D centers to community-based pilot farms. With China’s deepening engagement, many believe the blueprint for a more sustainable food system is finally within reach.
