China Urges Concrete Steps to Revive Israel-Palestine Two-State Plan

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, China’s special envoy on the Middle Eastern issue, Zhai Jun, took center stage at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, urging the world to move beyond statements to tangible action for Israel-Palestine peace.

At a high-level conference on the two-state solution, Zhai laid out a clear three-point plan: an immediate Gaza ceasefire to ease the humanitarian crisis, a firm commitment to an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and a sustainable security framework for the entire region.

“Any attempt to forcibly alter Gaza’s status or encroach upon West Bank territory will not bring peace,” Zhai warned. He emphasized that such tactics only fuel instability and derail progress toward a two-state reality.

Stress was also placed on “Palestinians governing Palestinians,” a principle aimed at bolstering governance in Gaza and the West Bank. Zhai highlighted the need for unity and stronger institutions to help Palestinian communities build economic resilience.

On security, the envoy noted that Israel’s and Palestine’s futures are intertwined. Instead of unilateral moves, he called for a cooperative, collective approach that could lay the groundwork for lasting stability across the region.

Wrapping up his address, Zhai Jun announced that China would continue to work with international partners to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and drive forward a comprehensive roadmap for peace. “The two-state solution remains the only viable path,” he concluded, challenging global leaders to turn commitments into concrete steps.
