On Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a phone call to chart a new course for bilateral relations.
Wang Yi stressed that China and South Korea, as important neighbors and cooperation partners, should maintain policy stability and pursue genuine strategic cooperation based on shared interests. He highlighted how deeply integrated industrial and supply chains have benefited both peoples and warned against any moves toward decoupling or supply disruptions.
Cho Hyun welcomed deeper economic and trade ties, noting South Korea’s readiness to advance free trade negotiations and expand mutual benefits. He also called for more high-level exchanges to cement their strategic cooperative partnership.
Both ministers underlined the need for independence and autonomy in their relations, affirming they are not directed at any third party. They agreed to strengthen coordination in multilateral forums and jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade.
Looking ahead, China confirmed its support for South Korea’s hosting of the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, aiming to set a positive tone for regional and global economic collaboration.
