Beijing’s Ministry of Water Resources has activated a Level-IV emergency response after torrential rains since July 24 swelled the Chaobai River, triggering historic inflows into the Miyun Reservoir.
The reservoir, in Beijing’s northeastern suburbs, recorded its highest inflow in over six decades. Forecasts predict moderate to heavy rainfall over the next three days, raising flood warnings for the Chaobai and nearby small and medium rivers.
Authorities are urged to enhance real-time monitoring of water levels and rainfall, issue timely warnings, and inspect dikes and reservoir defenses. Ensuring the safety of ongoing infrastructure projects and fortifying levees can help detect and mitigate risks early.
Local officials are also preparing for pre-emptive relocations in vulnerable areas to protect lives and livelihoods. As the city braces for more rain, communities are reminded to stay alert and follow guidance from flood-control authorities.
