Changzhou, Jiangsu Province â On Saturday at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) China Open in Changzhou, home shuttlers guaranteed four titles for the host nation as all semifinals ended with Chinese players advancing to the finals across four events.
In menâs singles, Chinaâs resurgent star Shi Yuqi overcame veteran Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei 21-13, 22-20, extending his hot streak after clinching last weekâs Japan Open crown.
âAfter getting injured on Friday, I spent a long time on diagnosis and treatment,â Shi said. âI felt some discomfort at the start of the match on Saturday, but it eased once I focused on the court.â
Shiâs reward is a domestic showdown against compatriot Wang Zhengxing, who continued his surprise run by ousting Denmarkâs second-seeded Anders Antonsen 21-18, 21-15. The 23-year-old Wang will make his first BWF World Tour final on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Chinese shuttlers also locked in all-Chinese showdowns in womenâs singles, menâs doubles and womenâs doubles, setting the stage for a possible clean sweep on home soil.
With hometown support behind them, Chinaâs badminton stars are poised to make a statement as they chase four titles and momentum ahead of the season finale.
