Chinese Embassy in DC Marks PLA’s 98th and WWII Victory’s 80th Anniversaries

On July 24, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in the United States came alive with festive spirit as Ambassador Xie Feng and his wife hosted over 300 dignitaries, marking two historic milestones: the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army and the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War victory.

Among the guests were U.S. government and military officials, families of the famed Flying Tigers, World War II veterans, diplomats and military attachés from around the globe, and representatives of overseas Chinese communities and institutions in the United States. The reception blended formal remarks with personal stories, weaving together moments of remembrance and celebration.

Defense Attaché Major General Liu Zhan highlighted the enduring legacy of the PLA as a force for national defense and international cooperation. Minister Jing Quan reflected on the shared sacrifices that shaped modern peace, while Minister Qiu Wenxing emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory for future generations.

Descendants of the Flying Tigers shared vivid recollections of their parents' wartime missions, underscoring bonds formed across borders in the heat of conflict. "This gathering reminds us that history isn't just dates and figures: it's about people and the bridges they build," noted one attendee.

With a backdrop of diplomatic camaraderie, the event offered young global citizens and tech entrepreneurs fresh insights into how past alliances inform today's challenges – be it in security, sustainability, or cultural exchange. It was a vivid reminder that remembering history can fuel innovation and foster dialogue in our interconnected world.

As the evening drew to a close, Ambassador Xie Feng invited guests to explore an exhibition of archival photos and rare memorabilia, inviting reflections on how the sacrifices of the past continue to shape a more peaceful, cooperative future.
