Chinese Envoy Fu Cong Urges Israel to Uphold Humanitarian Law in Gaza

In a pivotal session at the UN Security Council, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called on Israel to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip. The debate highlighted the urgent need to protect civilians and ensure safe passage for aid.

Fu Cong warned that the latest round of hostilities has unleashed an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, with Gaza health authorities reporting 59,219 deaths and 143,045 injuries since October 2023. These figures underscore the toll of protracted conflict on families and communities.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs also sounded the alarm, describing a hunger crisis in Gaza that has never been more dire. Aid organizations warn that mass starvation is spreading, with both aid workers and civilians facing severe malnutrition.

China urged Israel to immediately cease all military operations in the Gaza Strip, fully restore access for humanitarian supplies, and support relief efforts by the UN and other agencies. Fu Cong stressed that upholding international law and prioritizing human lives are essential steps toward peace and stability in the region.
