In New York on Thursday, China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, called for both Cambodia and Thailand to exercise restraint and restore calm amid rising tensions. Responding to questions from a CMG reporter, Fu underscored China's ongoing contact with UN Security Council members and relevant states to address the situation.
Describing Cambodia and Thailand as "good neighbors" to the Chinese mainland—and to one another—Fu highlighted their importance within ASEAN, which he said has long resolved differences through peaceful dialogue. "We hope the situation can stabilize and peace can be achieved," he added, stressing China's support for ASEAN's tradition of peaceful dispute resolution.
The UN Security Council has arranged an emergency meeting to discuss the developments, and China is positioning itself as a mediator to facilitate communication between the two sides. As diplomatic channels remain active, many are watching to see if these efforts will lead to a swift return to regional stability.
