China-EU Summit Poised to Strengthen Ties Amid Global Uncertainty

Against a backdrop of growing global uncertainty, the 25th China-EU Summit kicks off this Thursday in Beijing, bringing key leaders face-to-face at a pivotal moment for international cooperation.

Set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 80th year of the United Nations, the meeting will see President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen travel to the Chinese capital. The summit aims to strengthen strategic communication, deepen dialogue, and explore new avenues for cooperation across trade, green technology, and digital innovation.

Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, highlighted that over the past half-century, China-EU relations have grown into one of the world’s most influential partnerships, reaching nearly two billion people. “This cooperation sets an example of mutually beneficial collaboration in the era of economic globalization,” he noted, stressing the need to uphold multilateralism and openness amid rising protectionism.

With both sides acknowledging new opportunities and challenges at this critical juncture, China and the EU stand ready to send a positive signal on joint commitment to a stronger, more resilient partnership—one that champions global peace, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.
