At the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing, President Xi and President Ghazouani agreed to elevate their ties to a strategic partnership, setting the stage for deeper collaboration in trade, renewable energy and education exchanges.
“China attaches great importance to its relationship with Mauritania,” Xi wrote. “We stand ready to deepen mutual trust, enhance cooperation and build a brighter future for our strategic partnership to benefit both peoples.”
President Ghazouani echoed this sentiment, noting their shared support in international affairs and affirming the elevation of ties will boost prosperity for both nations.
On the same day, Chinese premier Li Qiang and Mauritanian prime minister Mokhtar Ould Diay also traded congratulatory messages.
