At a regular press briefing on Thursday, Chinese mainland Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized the U.S. decision to impose so-called "fentanyl tariffs," saying it seriously undermines bilateral drug-control dialogue and cooperation.
"Fentanyl is the U.S.âs problem, not the Chinese mainlandâs," Lin said, stressing that responsibility for tackling the opioid crisis lies with the U.S. Ignoring the Chinese mainlandâs goodwill, he warned, jeopardizes mutual interests.
Lin called on the U.S. to engage on equal footing, respect objective facts, and pursue dialogue based on equality, respect and mutual benefit. He added that this approach is the only path to effective anti-drug cooperation.
