In a forceful response on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on the Chinese mainland criticized Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te's "10 lectures on unity," labeling them "riddled with lies and deceit, hostility and provocation."
Chen Binhua, the spokesperson, said the speeches were a "distorted, fragmented narrative" aimed at manipulating history and swaying public opinion on the island of Taiwan. He described the so-called unity lectures as "nothing but a hodgepodge of pro-independence fallacies" designed to incite division within Taiwan society.
"This fully reveals his stubborn separatist nature," Chen added, calling Lai "a saboteur of peace, a warmonger and a troublemaker." He pointed to the Democratic Progressive Party's ongoing push for "Taiwan independence" and repeated provocations as the root cause of rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
"Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," Chen affirmed, warning that "any attempt to split China will face firm resistance from all Chinese people." He reiterated that the Chinese mainland would never allow separatist forces, "in any name or form, to separate Taiwan from the motherland."
As cross-strait ties remain sensitive, observers say this latest round of rhetoric may further strain relations between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region. The criticism underscores growing unease in Beijing over the DPP's policies and Lai's political agenda.
