In a landmark meeting in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar laid out a vision for bolstering China–India relations through mutual respect, trust and collaboration.
Wang Yi underscored the need to follow the path of good-neighborliness and friendship, aiming for peaceful coexistence, shared development and win-win outcomes. He highlighted plans to expand people-to-people exchanges and deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, technology and culture.
Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination in multilateral forums like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, safeguarding the multilateral trading system and promoting open global supply chains. They also called for joint efforts to defend the common interests of the Global South and advance regional peace and prosperity.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar described China and India as development partners rather than competitors. He stressed the importance of a long-term perspective, preventing differences from escalating into disputes and ensuring healthy competition without conflict.
Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to strategic autonomy and an independent foreign policy, expressing readiness to work alongside China in shaping a multipolar world and reinforcing multilateralism on the global stage.
As two of the world’s fastest-growing economies, China and India aim to chart a collaborative future, proving that neighborly ties and pragmatic diplomacy can unlock shared progress for billions of people.
