Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday joined counterparts at the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, highlighting Asia-Pacific's thriving development thanks to decades of peace and stability.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, emphasized that the ARF's role as a key multilateral security platform must be strengthened to safeguard that progress. "We should cherish our peaceful environment and work together to enhance confidence-building measures," he said.
Outlining China's vision, Wang proposed a security framework that is common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable. He called for a balanced, effective architecture and an Asian security model that intertwines security interests, seeks common ground while reserving differences, and opts for dialogue over confrontation, partnerships over alliances, and win-win outcomes over zero-sum games.
Warning that division and opposition undermine regional safety, Wang urged members to tackle both the symptoms and root causes of conflict. He drew on Eastern wisdom and the Bandung Spirit, advocating accommodation of legitimate security concerns across the region.
Looking ahead, China expressed its willingness to work with ARF members to bridge differences through dialogue and consultation, while injecting fresh vitality into preventive diplomacy and confidence-building initiatives across all areas of the forum's work.
