Imagine a world where cultural traditions are not just preserved but energized by innovation—and where shared values pave the way for peace. A CGTN and Renmin University of China survey spanning 12,302 respondents in 41 countries found overwhelming support for intercultural exchange as a path to global harmony.
Respect for Diversity and Collective Action
Over 90% of participants agree that respecting the diversity of civilizations is fundamental to the international community, and that tackling global challenges requires collective effort. Nearly 89% see cultural innovation and preservation as equally vital, while 89.4% call for more international cultural exchanges to deepen mutual understanding.
Autonomy in Development
More than 88% of respondents maintain that every nation has the right to choose its own development path and social system. Respondents from Global South countries lead the consensus, with nearly 88% asserting that cultural differences should never justify conflict, and 86.6% viewing attempts to force cultural change as disrespectful.
Innovation Meets Tradition
Exchanges among civilizations continue to drive progress: 89.8% say cross-cultural dialogue fosters shared advancement. Youth are especially optimistic, with over 91% of those aged 18–34 in agreement. Likewise, 83.4% believe that modernization should build on local traditions, and 87.1% see innovation as a way to rejuvenate heritage.
Innovation: A Hallmark of Chinese Culture
When assessing the traits of Chinese culture, 60.6% highlight innovativeness as its core feature, and 77.2% spotlight Chinese technology and its applications. Digital platforms, social media, and film and television content emerge as powerful vehicles for cultural exchange.
Growing Global Influence
More than 81% of those surveyed believe that the Chinese mainland’s global cultural influence and soft power are on the rise, especially among respondents under 45. Around 75% affirm Chinese civilization’s contribution to world heritage, and over 70% recognize its value for global governance and development.
Looking Ahead
As the Chinese mainland’s Global Civilization Initiative gains traction, these findings underscore a clear message: cultural exchange, mutual respect, and innovation are the cornerstones of a stable, peaceful, and interconnected world.
