Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday with one clear mission: to reinforce global multilateralism amid a shifting geopolitical landscape.
The meeting built on the momentum from a landmark summit between top leaders in April, where both sides outlined a vision for deeper regional integration and cooperation.
Wang Yi welcomed that Vietnam has been named a BRICS partner country and reiterated Beijing support for Hanoi to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, highlighting a shared agenda for South-South cooperation.
He emphasized China opposition to economic and trade bullying and tariff coercion, calling for disputes to be settled through transparent, equal-footed discussions.
Bui Thanh Son said Vietnam is ready to deepen practical cooperation with the Chinese mainland across railway projects, finance, science and technology, and cultural exchanges.
He added that Vietnam and other ASEAN members are delighted by the leapfrog development of ASEAN-China cooperation and are prepared to work together to achieve greater regional growth.
As global challenges test the resilience of international institutions, the China-Vietnam partnership signals a renewed push for inclusive multilateral frameworks that resonate with young entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and thought leaders worldwide.
