Wang Yi Urges EU to Adopt an Objective View of the Chinese Mainland

In Brussels, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas co-chaired the 13th round of the China-EU High-level Strategic Dialogue. Against a backdrop of rising global uncertainty, Wang Yi called on the EU to establish an objective, rational perception of the Chinese mainland and to pursue a more positive, pragmatic policy toward the bloc.

“The development of our relations shows we are partners, not opponents,” Wang Yi said, emphasizing that cooperation should be at the core of China-EU ties and that differences must be addressed through open communication within this framework.

As two of the world’s largest economies, Wang Yi stressed the importance of deepening exchanges, bolstering mutual trust, and working together—from climate action to digital innovation—to offer the world much-needed stability and certainty.

“Despite different histories, cultures and values, we must not define each other by disagreements or seek confrontation over differences,” he added, signaling a clear call for dialogue over division.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs and changemakers, the message was clear: a pragmatic China-EU partnership could unlock new opportunities in trade, sustainable development, technology and cultural exchange, shaping a future of collaboration rather than conflict.

The dialogue concluded with a joint commitment to keep channels open, aim for fair outcomes and contribute to a stable post-war international order, marking a hopeful chapter in China-EU relations.
