Vice President Han Zheng kicked off the 13th World Peace Forum at Tsinghua University in Beijing, calling on nations to strengthen international cooperation in the face of rapid change and rising tensions.
He highlighted that the world is witnessing profound shifts and regional pressures. Referencing President Xi Jinping's vision, he outlined the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative as China's approaches to shared challenges.
With 2025 marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the founding of the United Nations, Han Zheng underlined the need to remember history and uphold the post-war international order. He emphasized support for the UN-centered system and international law, calling for equal consultation and mutual respect among nations.
The vice president urged countries to embrace openness and cooperation to drive inclusive economic growth. He stressed the importance of safeguarding multilateral trade, ensuring smooth global supply chains and placing development at the heart of the global agenda to reduce inequalities.
Nearly 400 diplomats, scholars and former leaders joined the forum, including former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and former European Council President Herman Van Rompuy. Their discussions revolved around strengthening multilateral governance, advancing shared development goals and promoting a community with a shared future for mankind.
As the forum wrapped up, delegates agreed that in an era of rapid change, multilateralism and solidarity are the keys to a more peaceful and prosperous world. With the World Peace Forum as a platform, Vice President Han Zheng's message is clear: only by working together can today's global challenges become tomorrow's opportunities.
