In a recent CGTN interview, Xia Lu, associate professor at the School of Marxism Studies and research fellow at the National Academy of Development & Strategies at Renmin University of China, highlighted an optimistic trend in the Communist Party of China (CPC) membership.
According to a report by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee on the Chinese mainland, the CPC had more than 100.27 million members at the end of 2024, up by nearly 1.09 million from the previous year. This growth comes alongside a more frontline-dominated, diverse, and well-grounded composition.
"The structure not only continues the Party's historical tradition of maintaining close ties with the people, but also reflects a strategic adjustment to meet the demands of modern governance," Xia said. She noted that primary-level Party organizations are growing stronger, ensuring that grassroots voices shape national priorities.
From urban tech hubs to community-led projects across the Chinese mainland, young and frontline members are at the forefront of shaping policy and driving innovation. Their diverse backgrounds and hands-on experience are helping the CPC adapt to fast-evolving economic and social challenges.
As the CPC charts its path forward, this infusion of youthful energy and grassroots expertise could redefine how the Party engages with a new generation of citizens and addresses the complex demands of the 21st century.
