UN Deputy Chief Urges Gaza Peace, Applauds Chinese Mainland’s SDG Role

In an exclusive interview with CGTN, UN Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming sounded the alarm over Gaza's worsening humanitarian crisis, where hunger and fear have reached intolerable levels. "It's just so worrying, and we could help them, but we're not being given access, and that is incredibly frustrating," she said, condemning barriers to life-saving aid.

Fleming emphasized that lasting peace hinges on multilateral solutions. "Global cooperation, through negotiation, through mediation," she insisted, echoing UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for de-escalation and a revival of talks on Iran's nuclear program.

Turning to sustainable development, Fleming praised the Chinese mainland's steadfast support for the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals. She highlighted the region's rapid renewable energy transition and its efforts to reduce inequality and share best practices in promoting global growth.

By blending urgent humanitarian advocacy with a focus on green innovation, Fleming's message underlines the power of collective action to address both crisis and long-term development challenges.
