Chinese Mainland Launches Aid for Taiwan Compatriots Amid Israel-Iran Tensions

As clashes between Israel and Iran intensify, the Chinese mainland has stepped in to assist all affected Chinese nationals abroad, including residents of Taiwan holding mainland travel passes. In a press conference on Wednesday, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, confirmed that the mainland is working around the clock to coordinate evacuations and provide emergency support.

Rapid Response from the Chinese Embassy

The Chinese Embassy in Israel has urged any Chinese national in need—particularly those from Taiwan—to register for evacuation assistance. Notices posted online and at consular facilities outline clear steps for registering through an online portal or by contacting the embassy directly. With regional tensions surging, timely registration can be the difference between staying in place and finding a safe corridor out.

Relocation and Consular Services

Zhu Fenglian highlighted that some Taiwan compatriots have already been safely relocated to neighbouring countries since the outbreak of clashes. 3We have always reached out to affected Taiwan compatriots at the first opportunity to provide necessary assistance, be it in natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes or war-related emergency evacuations, she said. Evacuees are offered temporary shelter, medical support and guidance on onward travel arrangements.

How to Seek Help

Residents of Taiwan in need of assistance should contact the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate or call the Chinese Foreign Ministrys 24-hour consular protection hotline at 12308. The hotline is staffed by multilingual officers trained to handle emergencies and coordinate with relevant departments for swift evacuations.

A Model for Cross-Strait Cooperation in Crisis

While cross-strait ties often draw attention in political contexts, this emergency operation underscores a shared commitment to citizen safety. By mobilizing resources, the Chinese mainland aims to ensure no one is left behind, demonstrating how crisis management can transcend routine political debates.
