In the heart of Europe's vibrant capital, Budapest, experts, officials, and scholars from China and Hungary came together for a groundbreaking symposium on international human rights. Under the banner "Consensus on International Human Rights: Retrospect of the Past 80 Years and Prospects of the Future," the event sparked dialogue on how to balance global norms with national traditions.
Baima Chilin, president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, urged participants to draw lessons from history while tackling modern challenges – from social inequality to cultural diversity. "Mutual respect, multilateralism, and cooperation will be key to fair and inclusive governance," he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao reiterated a shared commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, emphasizing that sovereignty and traditions should complement global standards. "We reject politicization and double standards in human rights," he added.
Gyula Thurmer, president of the Hungarian Workers' Party, endorsed a six-point vision for a new world order based on equality, mutual trust, and shared development. Meanwhile, Andras Bencsik, editor-in-chief of Magyar Demokrata, highlighted the power of cultural diversity and the human right to love as a unifying force across languages and histories.
Co-hosted by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, and the Eurasia Center, the symposium set the stage for a fresh consensus on global human rights – one rooted in dialogue, respect, and real-world impact.
