The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government convened a forum on Saturday to mark the fifth anniversary of the national security law, implemented on June 30, 2020.
Xia Baolong, head of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, said the law helped Hong Kong move from chaos to stability and ushered in a new era of “One Country, Two Systems.”
He noted that the law has played a crucial role in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests; maintaining stability and prosperity in Hong Kong; and protecting the interests of Hong Kong residents and foreign investors.
As Hong Kong stands at a critical juncture, Xia urged all stakeholders to fully, faithfully and resolutely implement the principle of “One Country, Two Systems” and to continue building a secure environment that will enable the region to achieve stronger development.
