Huawei Unveils HarmonyOS 6 at HDC 2025, Accelerating Smart OS Ecosystem

HDC 2025 Kicks Off in Dongguan

Huawei's annual developer conference opened on the Chinese mainland at Songshan Lake in Dongguan, bringing together tech talents and industry leaders. This year's HDC marked a major leap for HarmonyOS as Huawei pushes its all-scenario intelligent operating system into the global fast lane.

HarmonyOS 6 Developer Beta

Yu Chengdong, executive director and CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, introduced the developer beta of HarmonyOS 6. The new version promises millisecond-level low-latency interaction, advanced AI capabilities and the HarmonyOS Multi-Agent Framework (HMAF), designed to embed AI at the core of device collaboration.

Key Features: Seamless Sharing and Productivity

HarmonyOS 6 introduces smart features like Tap-to-Share for instant file transfer between smartphones and PCs, and cross-device content insertion for boosted collaboration across devices. The update also expands into daily life with smart parking support, quick fuel payments and stronger privacy safeguards.

HarmonyOS Agent Framework and Beyond

Alongside the OS upgrade, Huawei unveiled the HarmonyOS Agent Framework. Over 50 initial agents will launch soon in areas such as e-commerce, media, education, healthcare and finance. Powered by HMAF, these agents will deliver personalized, context-aware services across multiple scenarios.

OpenHarmony’s Rocket Growth

The OpenHarmony open-source project has exploded in scale with 130 million lines of code, nearly 9,000 community contributors and over 1,200 software and hardware products. More than 40 Huawei devices currently run HarmonyOS 5, which has added over 260 features and addressed 2.16 million user requests.

A Thriving Ecosystem

Huawei’s push for ecosystem expansion is already yielding results: 8 million registered developers, over 30,000 apps and meta-services in development, and more than 38 million businesses using HarmonyOS in enterprise settings. Initiatives like the Hongfei and Yaoxing programs continue to support and incentivize global innovation.

The Road Ahead

As HDC 2025 continues, Huawei reaffirms its commitment to open-source collaboration and ecosystem growth. With the launch of the HarmonyOS 6 developer beta and a thriving community of innovators, the company aims to cement HarmonyOS’s role as a leading force in all-scenario intelligence.
