The ninth China-South Asia Expo kicked off Thursday in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province in the southwestern Chinese mainland, under the theme "Solidarity and Coordination for Common Development." Over five days, the event brings together participants from more than 70 countries and international organizations, with full representation from all South and Southeast Asia members. Sri Lanka takes the spotlight as this year’s guest of honor.
For many entrepreneurs, the expo serves as a gateway to new markets. Sri Lanka’s deputy minister of foreign affairs and foreign employment, Arun Hemachandra, highlights the opportunity: "China is a great market for us. We’ve brought products ranging from wood carvings and tea to various ornaments." With fresh government support, Sri Lanka is empowering startups to pitch directly to international buyers for the first time.
From artisans to tech innovators, attendees are forging partnerships, exchanging ideas and exploring collaboration across borders. As young global citizens, professionals and changemakers gather, this expo is not just a trade fair—it’s a catalyst for regional innovation and shared growth.
