In Xiamen, a city in southeast the Chinese mainland’s Fujian Province, Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, called for a high-quality push in the cross-Straits integrated development demonstration zone.
He highlighted Fujian’s strategic position as a bridge in cross-Straits relations, urging greater policy and mechanism innovation to deepen economic and cultural exchanges with Taiwan. "We must leverage Fujian’s unique advantages to pilot new models of cooperation," Wang said.
Wang stressed coordinating relevant measures to create a more favorable business environment that attracts Taiwan compatriots and enterprises to grow on the mainland. Simplified regulations, targeted incentives and joint ventures were cited as key areas for action.
To foster deeper ties, he underscored the need to normalize cross-Straits travel and support regular exchanges. Wang urged efforts to streamline channels for young residents of Taiwan to pursue studies, careers and entrepreneurial opportunities on the mainland.
Designated in September 2023, the Fujian demonstration zone for cross-Straits integrated development aims to serve as a model for economic integration and cultural collaboration. Observers say success here could reshape the landscape of cross-Straits cooperation in the years ahead.
