China Mobilizes Forces Ahead of Typhoon Wutip Landfall

China is stepping up its defense against Typhoon Wutip, the first typhoon of the year, which hit southern regions this weekend. Late Friday, Wutip made its initial landfall in Dongfang City in south China’s Hainan Province, then struck Leizhou City in Guangdong Province around noon Saturday.

The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has sounded the alarm, predicting sustained, widespread winds and torrential rains that could trigger floods and wind damage. Three working teams have been dispatched to Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi to coordinate on-the-ground disaster prevention efforts.

Over 3,000 local firefighting personnel are now deployed along the frontlines, supported by emergency rescue units and aircraft mobilized by the Ministry of Emergency Management. On the eastern coast, the Ministry of Water Resources has activated a Level-IV emergency response in Zhejiang Province, urging authorities to use water conservancy infrastructure to protect lives and property.

As Wutip continues its path across the southern provinces, Chinese authorities remain on high alert, monitoring weather developments and reinforcing communities against potential impacts.
