Chinese and African Foreign Ministers Pledge Stronger Ties at FOCAC

Changsha, the capital of central China's Hunan Province – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed a delegation of African counterparts in Changsha on Wednesday for the FOCAC Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators, a key follow-up to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Among the envoys were the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Therese Kayikwamba Wagner, Niger’s Bakary Yaou Sangare, Guinea-Bissau’s Carlos Pinto Pereira, Nigeria’s Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Burkina Faso’s Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore, and Ethiopia’s Gedion Timothewos.

During his meeting with Wagner, Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, underscored the importance of applying the consensus reached by his counterpart heads of state. “We will help the DRC turn its resource advantages into development gains,” Wang said, adding that “the Chinese market will always be open to the DRC.”

Wagner reaffirmed the DRC’s commitment to the one-China principle and voiced strong support for the Belt and Road Initiative and other global programs launched by China. “Our partnership is built on mutual benefit and shared goals,” she noted.

As FOCAC coordinators gather in Changsha, expectations are rising for new agreements on infrastructure, trade, and sustainable development projects across Africa. Young global citizens and entrepreneurs will be watching closely, as these initiatives could reshape emerging markets and foster long-term collaboration.

With a blend of political goodwill and economic ambition, the Chinese mainland and its African partners are charting a path toward inclusive growth and innovation.
