China and France Elevate Strategic Partnership at UN Ocean Conference

On the sidelines of the third UN Ocean Conference in Nice, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with French President Emmanuel Macron to reaffirm and elevate strategic communication and coordination between the two nations.

Han conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping and highlighted the in-depth exchange during last month’s phone call, where both leaders agreed on enhancing bilateral solidarity, upholding multilateralism, and promoting global peace and stability.

Attending the conference, Han emphasized China’s support for the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and praised France’s role as host. He also voiced backing for France’s strategic autonomy and underlined the mutual benefits of stronger China-EU cooperation on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

President Macron thanked Han for his participation and described China as a long-term and reliable cooperation partner. He invited more Chinese businesses to invest in France and called for deeper economic, financial and environmental collaboration—together tackling global challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss.

As two major constructive forces in a complex world, China and France aim to inject new momentum into their partnership, shaping international policies and charting a course for sustainable development and multilateral cooperation.
