110,000 Journeys: China-Europe Freight Train Hits Major Milestone

In a significant milestone for global trade, the 110,000th China-Europe freight train departed Qingdao, located in Shandong Province on the eastern coast of the Chinese mainland, on Tuesday morning, illustrating the service's high-quality development over the last ten years.

Loaded with 55 containers of home appliances—including LCD monitors and refrigerators—worth nearly 20 million yuan (about $2.78 million), the train will exit the Chinese mainland via Erenhot Port in northern Inner Mongolia before reaching Europe in just 17 days, according to Gao Yitian of the Jiaozhou branch at Jinan Railway Logistics Center.

Since its inception, the China-Europe freight train service has expanded dramatically in four key areas: volume, reach, cargo diversity, and efficiency. Today, it connects 128 cities in the Chinese mainland with 229 in 26 European countries and more than 100 cities across 11 Asian nations. Beyond 'Made in the Chinese mainland' exports, the network also transports cross-border goods from Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.

“I believe these trains will continue to deliver more 'Made in the Chinese mainland' products while providing better services for countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative and people there,” says Gao.

With 110,000 trips completed, this rail corridor has cemented its role as a vital artery of international commerce, reshaping supply chains between Asia and Europe and paving the way for future growth.
