Hong Kong SAR welcomed approximately 20 million visitor arrivals in the first five months of 2025, announced Paul Chan, financial secretary of the HKSAR government. Three quarters of these visitors came from the Chinese mainland—a 10% year-on-year boost.
This surge is largely driven by a lineup of themed events in culture, sports and entertainment. Chan’s figures show that major events in the first half attracted around 840,000 guests, generating HK$3.3 billion (US$421 million) in consumer spending and HK$1.8 billion in added economic value.
Looking ahead, the HKSAR government plans to synergize these events with Hong Kong’s other attractions—from vibrant urban districts to tranquil outlying islands—to elevate the overall visitor experience.
Chan is optimistic that a fresh wave of cultural festivals, sports tournaments and tourism launches will keep the momentum rolling in the second half of 2025, maintaining strong growth in annual visitor figures.
For young global citizens—from digital nomads attending tech expos to explorers wandering heritage trails—Hong Kong SAR’s blend of innovation, culture and local charm offers endless opportunities to connect and discover.
