At a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian firmly pushed back against the U.S. assertion that the Chinese mainland breached the consensus reached during the China-U.S. economic and trade talks in Geneva. Lin accused the United States of \"spreading disinformation\" and urged Washington to correct its own mistakes.
\"The Chinese mainland has acted responsibly, taking the consensus reached in the Geneva talks seriously and implementing it rigorously,\" Lin said. By contrast, the United States has \"seriously undermined\" the consensus by introducing multiple discriminatory restrictive measures, including guidance on AI chip export controls, halting sales of chip design software to the Chinese mainland, and revoking visas for Chinese students.
Lin stressed that pressure and coercion are not the correct ways to deal with the Chinese mainland. He called on the United States to respect the facts, stop spreading disinformation, and take concrete actions to safeguard the consensus reached during the Geneva talks.
