China, Japan Make Substantial Progress in Aquatic Products Talks

Beijing, May 28 — China and Japan advanced their aquatic trade ties with a fresh round of technical talks on Japanese aquatic products, held at Japan's request. The General Administration of Customs (GAC) announced in a Friday statement that "substantial" progress was made, a sign of deepening cooperation in the seafood sector.

The GAC noted that multiple rounds of such talks have taken place this year, reflecting both sides’ commitment to resolving technical hurdles and enhancing trade flows.

By addressing quality standards, inspection protocols and certification processes, officials aim to ease cross-border trade for exporters, importers and regulators.

With several sessions already completed, participants and industry groups alike are looking ahead to the next meetings to gauge how talks will translate into smoother market access and stronger bilateral ties in aquatic products.
