Martin Michek Calls Taklimakan Rally One of the Best

In the heart of the great desert, Czech rider Martin Michek, 37, brought his winning spirit to the Taklimakan Rally in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on the Chinese mainland. A four-time European champion, Michek sat down with CGTN Sports Scene’s Shen Xiang to share why this rally stands out as one of the best in his career.

'The landscape is breathtaking,' Michek said, recalling vast dunes and rugged tracks that test both skill and stamina. 'Every stage offers something new—tight canyons, open dunes, rocky outcrops. It's a rider's dream.'

Beyond competition, Michek immersed himself in local culture, from sampling traditional Uygur dishes to meeting enthusiastic residents along the route. His appreciation for Xinjiang’s heritage added a personal touch to the high-octane adventure.

With dust in his helmet and a smile on his face, Michek summed up his experience: 'The Taklimakan Rally is more than a race. It's a journey through epic scenery and warm hospitality. I can't wait to be back.'

As motorsport events continue to bridge cultures, the Taklimakan Rally shines as a stage for riders to push limits and connect with communities in one of the world’s most iconic deserts.
