At a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday, China\u0002s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong urged an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the urgent need to alleviate the humanitarian disaster.
Israel\u0002s military offensive in Gaza has intensified since May 16, flattening densely populated areas. In just two weeks, more than 1,000 Gazan civilians have lost their lives, despite UN resolutions demanding a ceasefire.
Fu stressed that "extending the conflict will not lead to the release of hostages; it will only result in more death and hatred." He underscored that abiding by international humanitarian law is an undeniable obligation for all parties.
He called on Israel to ensure humanitarian assistance flows into Gaza, protect civilian facilities and humanitarian workers, and immediately cease military operations. He also urged the lift of the blockade and full restoration of access for relief supplies in support of the United Nations and other aid agencies.
Highlighting that Gaza and the West Bank are inseparable parts of the Palestinian state, Fu opposed any attempts at annexation or forced displacement. He also encouraged the U.S. to take a fair and responsible approach with practical, strong actions.
Fu reiterated that the two-state solution remains the only feasible path to resolve the Palestinian issue. China will continue collaborating with the international community to help end the Gaza conflict, alleviate the humanitarian crisis, and restore peace and stability to the Middle East.
