China to Grant Visa-Free Entry for GCC Nationals

In a major move to deepen ties with the Middle East, China announced it will implement a visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain from June 9, 2025 to June 8, 2026, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed on Wednesday.

This decision builds on visa exemptions granted in 2018 to nationals of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, meaning all six Gulf Cooperation Council members will enjoy full visa-free access for an entire year. The GCC, known for its high outbound travel rates, now has unprecedented freedom to explore, invest, and connect with China’s diverse regions.

For young global citizens and digital nomads, this policy unlocks new passport stamps and immersive experiences, from the Great Wall to Shanghai’s vibrant art scene. Business and tech enthusiasts can more easily attend industry summits, pitch to startups in tech hubs like Shenzhen, and tap into consumer markets. Thought leaders focused on sustainability and cultural exchange can forge collaborations in education and environmental projects, while sports and entertainment fans will find it simpler to catch concerts, esports tournaments and sporting events across China.

The move underscores China’s broader strategy to boost tourism and people-to-people exchanges with key partners. By cutting administrative barriers, the policy signals a commitment to stronger economic links and cultural dialogue with the Gulf region.

Mark your calendars: from June 2025 to June 2026, GCC passport holders can plan trips, business missions and cultural adventures in China visa-free. Stay tuned for more updates on travel planning and on-the-ground tips as this policy rollout approaches.
