On Saturday—this years Dragon Boat Festival—the 2025 China (Hainan) Dragon Boat Invitational and the 3rd Wanning Hele Jianghu Dragon Boat Race will ignite the waters at Gangbei Harbor in Hele Town, Wanning, Hainan. Twelve teams representing communities across the tropical province will paddle in a bid for glory, blending centuries-old tradition with modern competition.
Hele Town earned its title as the Dragon Boat Town of China in 2015, awarded by the Chinese Dragon Boat Association. Since then, its waterfront has transformed into a vibrant arena where drummers set the pace, synchronized rowers navigate the tide, and locals and travelers gather to celebrate a living heritage.
