On Tuesday, Beijing played host to a landmark meeting as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, chairman of Indonesia’s National Economic Council. Against the backdrop of the 75th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations, both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation across politics, economics, and emerging industries.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, underscored the importance of political mutual trust. He highlighted flagship collaborations like the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor, and called for expanding partnerships in ocean research, mineral development, and cutting-edge fields.
“In the face of unilateralism and trade bullying, we must stand independent, seek win-win cooperation, and safeguard fairness and justice,” Wang said, celebrating Indonesia’s elevation to full BRICS membership. He added that the Chinese mainland is ready to promote the Bandung Spirit, advance regional economic integration, and build a shared Asia-Pacific homeland.
For his part, Pandjaitan praised the solid foundation of China-Indonesia friendship. He noted that joint ventures in trade, finance, technology transfer, and talent development have driven mutual prosperity. Landmark projects like the high-speed rail not only cut travel times but also generate positive spillovers across Southeast Asia.
Looking ahead, Indonesia aims to step up exchanges at every level: from cultural and people-to-people ties to broader economic integration. By strengthening the China-Indonesia community with a shared future and fostering solidarity within the Global South, both nations hope to set a model for sustainable, inclusive growth.
