As China’s pet economy continues to expand, Wuxi in Jiangsu Province is rolling out a wave of animal-friendly services that cater to both pets and their owners. From custom transport to themed events, the city is redefining urban life for furry companions.
First Pet-Friendly Bus Hits the Road
The city has launched a tailor-made bus route that welcomes dogs and cats alongside their humans. "This special bus line not only solves our parking problems, but also lets us enjoy outings with our beloved dogs," said Gu Ye, a pet owner. The service opens up new corners of Wuxi for exploration, offering a greener, more social way to travel.
Trails, Cafés & Pet-Themed Events
In Binhu District, pet lovers can dine at outdoor cafés, stroll along dedicated hiking trails, and join pet-themed sports events at scenic spots. "We’ve introduced fun activities like hiking with pets along a pet-friendly trail, and we regularly host pet-themed sports events at cafés, restaurants, and scenic spots to expand pet-friendly experiences," said Yang Jianjiang, a local official.
These initiatives are swiftly turning venues into vibrant social hubs. During this year’s May Day holiday, a pet-friendly commercial complex in Binhu recorded a 12 percent rise in average daily foot traffic compared to last year—underscoring the growing appeal of the pet-friendly cultural tourism model. As Wuxi innovates for animals and owners alike, it offers a blueprint for cities worldwide seeking to blend community, sustainability, and wellbeing.
