Wang Yi Urges Deeper China–LAC Cooperation at Beijing Forum

At the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined a bold vision for deeper cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged both sides to "firmly support each other's core interests" and to oppose power politics and interference in internal affairs. He highlighted China's unwavering support for LAC nations as they pursue independence, self-reliance and modernization suited to their unique conditions.

Rejecting camp confrontation and championing openness and win-win cooperation, Wang said China-LAC ties are charting a new model for international relations and injecting fresh momentum into Global South collaboration. He called on members to jointly safeguard their legitimate rights and interests on the world stage.

Key pillars of the proposed partnership include:

  • Economic & Trade Cooperation: Expanding high-quality trade and investment under frameworks like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative.
  • Security Collaboration: Combating all forms of terrorism and bolstering cybersecurity dialogues to protect digital borders.
  • Connectivity & Supply Chains: Elevating infrastructure links and ensuring stable industrial and logistics networks.
  • Cultural Exchange: Strengthening people-to-people ties and dialogue of civilizations to build a solid foundation of friendship.

Looking ahead, Wang stressed that China and LAC countries will practice true multilateralism, safeguarding an international order anchored by the United Nations and international law. LAC foreign ministers attending the forum praised the decade-long progress of China-CELAC cooperation and pledged to advance mutual-benefit projects on the path to a peaceful, green and inclusive future.

For young entrepreneurs, tech innovators and global citizens alike, these commitments signal new opportunities across industries—from sustainable travel routes powered by enhanced connectivity to joint digital platforms that could reshape e-commerce in emerging markets.
