In a display of raw power and strategic pacing, Li Dayin of the Chinese mainland claimed gold in the men's 89kg snatch at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province.
Facing 19-year-old teammate Pan Yunhua, Li opened with a confident 170kg lift and followed up with 176kg to top the podium. Pan's 163kg effort secured fifth place and signaled his rising promise.
Ro Kwang Ryol of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea lifted 168kg to earn silver in the snatch. To conserve energy for the clean & jerk, Li passed on his final snatch attempt.
Li battled a severe back injury in the clean & jerk but still managed a 203kg lift to take bronze in that discipline, finishing with a 379kg total and silver overall. Ro dominated with a 212kg lift and clinched gold in both the clean & jerk and overall with 380kg.
Pan Yunhua bounced back in style in the clean & jerk, lifting 209kg to set a new Asian junior record. His total of 372kg earned him silver in the lift and bronze overall.
In the men's 81kg division, Luo Chongyang of the Chinese mainland began with a 162kg snatch—just 1kg ahead of Indonesia's Rizki Juniansyah. South Korea's Son Hyeon-ho took bronze in the snatch.
The clean & jerk saw Son become the first to lift 200kg for gold, Luo matched the mark for silver in the lift and went on to secure the overall title with a 362kg total. Juniansyah completed the podium with bronze.
From record-breaking juniors to seasoned contenders nursing injuries, Quzhou's platform highlighted an evolving field where strategy, resilience, and raw talent converge on the Asian stage.
